The world still runs predominantly on the Microsoft OS platform, so it follows that there are many applications that are Windows only - or have increased functionality on Windows - like Office 365, for example. Add to that the many apps that come with it (and many more are available from third parties), and it's everything that you'll ever need.
The OS that comes with your MacBook Pro is a wonderful thing - regularly maintained, updated and kept more secure than its Windows counterparts.
